The Fairy Gate is approaching one hundred pages of manuscript now. My main character Laurel is about to step through the gate. As my long-distance writing partner asked during our most recent critique session, "How will the two different realities--magical and mortal--combine?" I've meditated on that question, in company with Laurel, the Queens of the Summer and Winter Courts, and others whose lives will influence the novel's events . . . and be influenced by them. I've taken the notes from those contemplations and transcribed, revised, and revised them again. And I'm still discovering what the ultimate answer will be. That's one of the pleasures and sometimes one of the frustrations of writing. We never just write x number of words and boom, the tale is done. It's a process.
Right now I love my process.
Also hard at work with some paperwork related to publication, plus the last stage of planning a writing class I'll be offering soon. Let's just say that (for the moment) I am enjoying all my works in progress, from manuscript to the day to day experiences of my writing life. It's good to be back to this blog, too.
